Shoulder Injuries
Tendonitis of the shoulder – This is defined as an inflammation of the tendon (the part of the muscle connecting to bone). It is most often caused by overuse or inpropper use of the shoulder while performing an activity. Treatment focuses on reducing pain and inflammation and restoring proper motion so irritation will not occur again.
Rotator Cuff Surgical Repair of the Shoulder – The rotator cuff of the shoulder consists of four muscles that control the stability of the shoulder in motion. It is often torn when someone falls on their shoulder or lifts heavy things in an awkward or quick motion. The cuff needs to be repaired when the arm becomes weak and normal shoulder use is impaired. Treatment after surgery begins with passive movement and progresses to actively assisted movement. Eventually strengthening exercises are included once the repair has healed.
