Knee Injuries
Arthroscopic Repair of Torn Knee Cartillage – This surgery uses a special instrument to make several small holes and in the knee to repair torn cartilage. Treatment focuses on regaining motion of the knee, reducing post surgical swelling and restoring the strength of the quadriceps muscle.
Total Knee Replacements – This surgery is commonly performed to deal with the wear and tear of arthritis in people over 60. It involves surgically implanting two metal components to replace the ends of the damaged bone. Treatment after surgery focuses on regaining early range of motion, early ambulation (walking) and strengthening exercises to regain full knee function.
Surgical Repair of the ACL – This is a common injury in atletes of all ages. It often occurs when playing football or basketball. Surgical repair involves taking part of the knee tendons and implanting them in the inside of the knee to replace the torn acl. Recovery is a long process compared with other knee surgeries because of the healing time required for the tendon graph. Treatment progresses quickly to regain motion and slowly works on strengthening.
Chondromalacia Patella of the Knee – This condition is caused by excessive wear and tear on the undersurface of the knee cap. It often occurs in athletes and in females because the wider female pelvis creates abnormal strain at the knee. Treatment focuses on mobilizing the knee cap and strengthening the quadriceps muscle of the thigh.
